Damper problem

Karen, I think you've already read that the spoon is the likely culprit.
There are some techniques for spoon bending that don't depend on the
spoon bending tool. Sometimes it's not possible to get the tool into
position to do the job with consoles or spinets.

To bend the spoon away from the wippen (to make the damper lift earlier)
, disconnect the bridle strap and the key and push down on the wippen.
If you can push the wippen down far enough, the spoon will hit the
action rail and bend as you push the wippen down.

To bend the spoon toward the wippen(to make the damper lift later),
remove the bottom panel of the piano so you can get one hand on the
action from the bottom. Reach between the strings and the damper lever.
Holding a finger against the damper lever to keep it from moving, lift
the wippen with the other hand. As you lift the wippen, you will be
pressing the spoon against the damper lever, and the spoon will bend as
long as you can hold the damper lever steady.
