Ed, I had a simular problem with a Steinway B which myself and four other RPTs had no luck using traditional voicing techniques. The piano sat around for years this way until I finally decided to replace the string just for the heck of it. That fixed it! I don't know the reason for the funny sound but suspect the string was once pulled beyond its' elastic limits or that there were twists in the wire. -Mike Jorgensen RPT
