Carol,
My deepest sympathies to you, and also my congratulations for
your calmness in the face of adversity.
I recently resigned a position I held for the last 22 years. A S&S -B
I rebuilt 20 years ago for this restaurant. Through many managers
and owners, I maintained a steady tuning regiment of once every 4
to 6 weeks; more often on drastic climactic changes. The newest
owner is one of:
>an immigrant culture that feels insulted if they are not made to feel
>like they are getting a discount (from NY to make matters worse),
[being a coastal community, we call new comers 'wash ashores']
so I felt it best to part ways. Often we find ourselves in the position
of choosing our customers also. Unless you want to grab the bull
by the horns and educate this customer to the benefits of have her
less than mediocre pianos maintained, I would let her go her merry
way. Of course this is just my opinion, since I referred 90% of my tuning
clients to other tuners to concentrate on rebuilding. But I maintain the local
Conservatory (20 pianos - a mere pittance to some) which refers maybe
one tuning per month, which I refer to an appropriate tuner.
So you may or may not want to cultivate this customer and to answer
your question: yes.
