To eliminate groaning sounds (are you sure it isn't a grunting
sound?) from an upright damper pedal being depressed, stick an old
Reader's Dogest between the pedal board  (trap
board) and the floor.  If that doesn't work look for one of the
action standards being slightly off (having play between) one or more
of the standard support bolts. Other wise you should able to locate
the source of the noise by ear.  Usually a creaking sound (instead of
a groaning sound) is caused by an axuallary hold down as mentioned by
David Ilvedson, or one of many contact points in the linkage of the
damper apparatus.
