No, they aren't "too soft", they are NY Steinway hammers. B-})

These hammers are traditionally soft, and are traditionally hardened in
order to give the traditional NY Steinway sound. There's a difference.

Because if they did, they wouldn't sound like NY Steinway hammers.

I've put other hammers on NY Steinways by request, but as a general rule
here if it's a NY piano it gets NY replacement parts. This is not out of any
sense of superiority of their parts, but for the same reason that parts that
go into my Volvo come out of a Volvo box.

Other hammers can sound very nice on a NY, but I always get the feeling that
something is missing. That "something" is lacquer, IMO.
