Paul, I don't know if Baldwin will still loan a gauge or not, but Tom Lowell's component bearing gauge will do the trick quite nicely (and, one really should own one anyway). More important is to get Baldwin's reference paper on this adjustment. It's about 3 pages or so, and well worth digesting. Also (Del, please help me out here), Del Fandrich, Nick Gravagne (and others) have written articles in various Journal issues which would make valuable reading. >From your description, you may, at this point, have more to deal with than just bearing. Certainly, make your measurements (and look for 1 to 1.5 degrees deflection), but then make sure that the hammers still work, etc. More later, if needed. Best of luck...
