Ted:

There are 12 instances of the word "pitch" in the New International
Version of the bible. None that your teacher mentioned:

(Gen 6:14 NIV) So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in
it and coat it with pitch inside and out.

(Exo 2:3 NIV) But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus
basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the
child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile.

(Exo 33:7 NIV) Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the
camp some distance away, calling it the "tent of meeting." Anyone
inquiring of the LORD would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp.

(Prov 20:20 NIV) If a man curses his father or mother, his lamp will be
snuffed out in pitch darkness.

(Isa 13:20 NIV) She will never be inhabited or lived in through all
generations; no Arab will pitch his tent there, no shepherd will rest
his flocks there.

(Isa 34:9 NIV) Edom's streams will be turned into pitch, her dust into
burning sulfur; her land will become blazing pitch!

(Jer 6:3 NIV) Shepherds with their flocks will come against her; they
will pitch their tents around her, each tending his own portion."

(Jer 10:20 NIV) My tent is destroyed; all its ropes are snapped. My
sons are gone from me and are no more; no one is left now to pitch my
tent or to set up my shelter.

(Ezek 25:4 NIV) therefore I am going to give you to the people of the
East as a possession. They will set up their camps and pitch their tents
among you; they will eat your fruit and drink your milk.

(Dan 11:45 NIV) He will pitch his royal tents between the seas at the
beautiful holy mountain. Yet he will come to his end, and no one will
help him.

(Amos 5:20 NIV) Will not the day of the LORD be darkness, not light--
pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness?
