List, The only people I hear trying to "debunk" perfect pitch (or absolute pitch) are the ones who don't have it. I'm a little weary of all this jealousy. Could we count our own blessings instead of downgrading others'? Okay, how about if we call it "hearing gifted"? It may not be absolutely dead on plus/minus 0.00 cents but it refers to a well developed sense of pitch, first of all, and a good memory of what notes sound like. Someone without perfect pitch might think it's perfect from their perspective. In Detroit, Isaac Sadigursky gave a class on perfect pitch. There were 3 people in attendance who professed to have the trait and he asked them to come forward and to each tune one string of A4. Isaac checked the tunings with a machine and two out of three tuned the note on pitch within reasonable tolerances. -- Thomas A. Cole RPT Santa Cruz, CA
