Just out of curiosity, I went looking for the consumer price index for as far back as I could find, (1946)and found the following: The cpi 1/46 was 18.1 The cpi 12/96 was 158.6 1982-84 was the period when $1.00 = $1.00 The 1946 tuning fee of $7.50 is 41.4 times the cpi.
