It is impossible to equate fees and prices today with "the good 'ol days".
Prices in some areas have remained exactly the same and others have grown
way out of proportion. A few months ago I listened to a replay of an old
"Fibber McGee and Molly" from the fourty's where Fibber was complaining about
prices in the grocery store. A whole ham, he said, was $27, a can of beans
was $.75 and a dozen eggs was $.50....I was really surprised to hear that
food prices really have'nt changed that much (probably due to technology),
but I about fell off my chair when I heard next that Molly said that she
still needed $7 left over for the house payment!
