I have only had two broken agraffes, both on the same piano, a restrung B, I don't remember its age. I was thinking that agraffes shouldn't break after being restrung so recently, (within 5 years, I think). One came out as I drilled for the extracter hole. (I used a reversible drill). Didn't know about the "fish tail" (good apellation) tool, but neither did 120 years combined experience of those I consulted before taking on a first time job. I'm wondering if the Steinways mentioned in these posts were also restrung? If restrung why were agraffes breaking. I had a hunch a problem could occur if they were screwed down too tight to make it meet its alignment. But how could one tell, after they broke? Now that Jon has raised the question, is there any other input? Richard Moody
