Jonsky and list,
I too am one of "those" guys that checked a book out of the library
and started to "fix" the problem....
It ain't black magic, but there is a lot more to a piano than
following steps 1-15.
The library book was returned years ago, and since then I have
purchased half a dozen books rebuilding, restringing, tuning, dating
and regulating.
Piano technology is just a "hobby" for me, but I have a high degree of
appreciation for the level of skill, patience, and knowledge most of
you Professionals have.

....yes, they all realize it's more difficult than they think... However,
only those failed to successfully repair will ask for a technician and
the succeeded one won't. I'm one of the later and am one who'd been
buying parts from IPS :-)
I sincerely agree what Mr. Blees said in that the more people try to
do repairs the more they realize the value of what they'd pay for repair
and the more they'd appreciate the works you guys are doing.
Don't make that piano repair arts as a black box...
