The idea of antifreeze causing rust is interesting - especially since one of
the reasons for using anti-freeze in a cooling system is to prevent rust.  Figure it out again!
Personally I suspect the glycol acted like glycerine to abgsorb moisture and swell the wood.
At any rate it sounds like a pretty dangerous approach to me.
