keyslip problem

Anyone familiar with the keyslip problem on the Hasting pianos? As far as
I can tell there is no way to remove the keyslip, short of *breaking* or
chiseling it from the keybed. There aren't screws; it's all one piece. So
what does one do with the keys hanging up on it. The best I can figure is
to take the keys out and sand the keyslip. There must be a better way. I
thought of moving the balance rail back, but I know that creates
interesting geometry problems.
