Richard West posted: >>I do "bulk tuning" in Nov/Dec because in Nebraska that's the best time to tune pianos...Having done a good job at that time of the year, the pitch variation through the rest of the year is not enough to raise the ire of the faculty.<< It would seem that you have come to grips with your "neck of the woods", which is what all of us must do. Ideally where I am at, having all the pianos tuned at the beginning of each semester and then again in the closing months of each semester would be *the cat's meow* for all concerned. But for now it hasn't made it past the cutting room of the budget table. And: >>I still believe that tuning a lot of pianos when the weather is at its hottest and "humidest" is still a "waste of time" as long as the piano is "usable." Of course, that's the debatable point.<< This reminds me of a few residential customers that call to have their piano tuned. They say it has been several years to a couple of decades ago since it was last tuned. Then they ask me if it would be prudent to have it tuned because they are planning on moving sometime soon (that can cover "in a few months until who knows when") and won't that knock it out tune. So maybe we better wait. (Never mind that they have already moved umpteen times since the last tuning.) And I'm thinking any tuning *now* would be better than waiting until a potential move takes place. Of course, all the while, they do have children practicing on the piano daily. What do they matter anyway?! (I do believe this is "on one's soapbox" talk.) I love this place, this cyberspace!! Thank you Mr. West for Many Topics Keith A. McGavern, RPT Oklahoma Chapter
