Anyone who has slaved to get all the pianos in tune before the start of school, as I used to do, only to have your work turn unrecognizable within the first few weeks (our school year begins at the end of September) should be able to relate to this. I find that the pianos are reasonably close in September and October, due to the spring tunings in April and May. Teaching studios, of course, get some attention before school starts, but I try not to go overboard. We also get new Yamahas in September, which must be tuned, but then, we're tuning those every month or two anyway. I also tend to agree with Barb Richmond who opposes the "bulk tuning" concept, period. It seems more like "painting the Golden Gate bridge" to me, ie, you just start at one end, and when you're done, you start over. Steve Brady, RPT "The most expert and rapid tuners are...
