pinning techniques

This tip has gotten me out of a few jams.
It was taught me by a Swansea tuner.
Need a calibrated pin vice in a hurry?
The conservative approach.
Use a pin a size smaller than the one you are fitting.
run it between a couple of files, moving the pin and the 2 files back
and forth, till the pin feels rough.
You now have a calibrated reamer.
Perhaps this should be called the poor man's reamer.
I have found this a good technique for a controled reaming of a flange
that's too tight on the pin.
Regards
