I have some questions/comments on: > Update on project Senda Piana to Havana: > > These are sound pianos, needing only strings or hammers and finish. > They will be sent to Cuba this fall, with or without U.S. permission, > to be rebuilt there If these pianos are from all over USA, they will go into thermal and humidity shock when they hit Cuba. I spent a year at Guantanamo moonlighting as a tuner all over the base (My *real* job was power plant operator), and the biggest problems I found were action glue joints wanting to make the things self destruct. Keys which were straight for years did u-turns and corkscrewed and hammers blossomed. Only ones I found not subject to this scenario were those either "tropicalized" or certain european makes. Maybe you will be using a sheep dip tank filled with that new Protek stuff and baptise them before shipping south??? Good luck! You certainly have an ambitious project on your hands. -- Conrad Hoffsommer, RPT | If it won't work, hit it with a hammer; Luther College | If it still won't work, use a bigger hammer; Decorah, Iowa 52101 | If it now is not repairable, it was broken hoffsoco@martin.luther.edu | anyway so get a new one...
