Jim, Kawai recommends replacement of all non-Kawai pianos every 2 years. J Actually, our institutional manager does school surveys and has some kind of system for recommended replacement. I am out of the office for a few more days, but will try to get the information from him and forward it to you. The colleges who have had this survey done have found it very useful. Kawai doesn't push the all one brand agenda, but I believe the survey usually recommends a balance of different pianos and a mixture of newer and older instruments, depending on the maintenance budget and resources. Does any such tool exist?? In other words, how can we tell administration (bean counters, etc.) an amount we need each year and justify it in a way they can understand? All you "All Steinway School" folks, what do you do for replacement??? I can't find replacement in their materials, although they have very useful info about refurbishing, etc. Eric W., Fred S., and Don M, it seems you have something, but I can't remember... Thanks.
