[CAUT] Steinway extra-bore-length

BUT, the 'front' as referred by Steinway in my discussions with them, is not the 'front' as you think it......it is the 'rear' of the brackets that is raised...the 'front' in Steinway nomenclature is the opposite side to where the player sits

...which just makes me imagine how good it would be if everyone adopted the nomenclature "proximal" and "distal" (relative to the player) in order to clarify otherwise dubious terms such as "in/out" and "forward/backward." I don't recall off-hand which of our clear-thinking sages introduced these terms online (was it Ed Foote? JD? Someone else?), but they made an instant convert out of me.

Regarding stack raising..
Probably a mis-nomer here...
As I understand it, and as I have tried it, you can raise the front only....BUT, the 'front' as referred by Steinway in my discussions with them, is not the 'front' as you think it......it is the 'rear' of the brackets that is raised...the 'front' in Steinway nomenclature is the opposite side to where the player sits.....
If you only raise the 'front', the drop screw height is barely altered.

Clear as mud....just trying to help here....

Raising the stack (3mm) would take care of things, but this is really a very efficient action, and I neither want, nor see a need to tamper with that. What's more, I can't say I really noticed a difference in performance with either bore dimension.

The Question:

So, what are the rest of you (and Jon) doing in this situation, and why?

I am remembering the action that I raised, years ago. I am remembering the grinding I had to do to the bottom of the pinblock to get the hammerflange screws to go under. Before raising the stack 3 mm, I would check to make sure I had 4 mm clearance between the drop or flange screws, all the way across the action!
