Good info. Kent is thorough. Eric Shandall told us "I don't know... we just use whatever is on hand". (IOW, work with it) David Love's advice is the best "The best thing to do is experiment with whatever lacquer you are using and figure it out." I think that is what Eric was saying.

I just returned from the Touch and Tone seminar a few weeks ago.  My notes don't mention any specifics regarding the solids content of the factory dip, but for voicing in the field, Kent recommended the following:

Lacquer typically comes in one of two levels of solids content:  12% and 25%.  If your lacquer is 12% solids, he recommends thinning at a 3-1 or 4-1 thinner to lacquer ratio.  If the lacquer has a solids content of 25%, then he recommends trying a ratio of between 6-1 to 8-1 thinner to lacquer.

If you search the archives there was a posting some time ago about the

specific solids content perhaps from Schandall, though it may be in the

Pianotech archives.  The best thing to do is experiment with whatever

lacquer you are using and figure it out.
