Remember though it depends on the solids solution. Steinway lacquer is lo solids and so a stronger solution was used.  Offthe shelf lacquers can be higher solids content and so will require a weakersolution.

 I have been using Sheffield's lacquer.  I don't know what the solids are, but I mixed it at 5:1 and the last set of Steinway hammers required three total soaks before I began getting a little power and a lot less complaints from the faculty.
