The camera I used was a Panasonic (Lumix) DMC-FZ18. It's a slightly higher-end (meaning bulkier) camera, though not a DSLR. The price was a little over $500 CDN about a year and a half ago. I didn't have to use a tripod; I just held the bottom portion of the pins between my fingers, brought them up close to the camera (held in my other hand), focused and shot.
