Alan, Good point. No offense taken or intended. I just feel kind of foolish that I don’t even know what a durometer is. <G> Best, Jim From: caut-bounces at ptg.org [mailto:caut-bounces at ptg.org] On Behalf Of Alan Eder Sent: Tuesday, December 21, 2010 4:07 PM To: caut at ptg.org Subject: Re: [CAUT] Mitutoyo gauge Hi Jim, And I know it’s not meant to be used like I did (compression) and as Alan pointed out. I only pointed that out in case someone else wanted to be a real boy scout about pursuing the compress-ability thing (and has at least $400.00 in their discretionary spending fund for a durometer--pricey, as Ted pointed out). I did not mean to imply that you were using your dial pressure gauge incorrectly. I think I'll start using mine that way too! Thanks for the tip. And I know it’s not meant to be used like I did (compression) and as Alan pointed out. But it did help to verify that some punchings were firmer than others, and not just my imagination. A Durometer measures hardness, comparable toRockwell testing for metals. Very expensive, unfortunately. For that, the best tool would probably be a durometer.
