Well, I would love to agree, except that RPT just doesn't cut it in this context. The RPT tests do not show the skills needed to do dealer prep. There is a pretty specific set of skills there, and it would be wonderful to have an endorsement specific to dealer work. But RPT? Sorry, it covers a different set of skills and knowledge, things more or less appropriate for "standard home service" with very minor repair and a basic understanding of regulation.

It might not be the "best" requirement, but it at least is better than absolutely no requirement, with a dealer using the cheapest (usually a newby) he can find to do floor tunings and prep. If anything, maybe manufacturers should develop their own test, and require dealers to administer that test to anyone who works on their (manufacturer) instruments. Now, perhaps the manufacturers want to use the PTG exams as THE requirement. But maybe they should develop an exam that is even more stringent.
