Hi David, Wally has special Natural Ables just for concert grands. I just installed a set on one of our Steinway D's (1980) and was extremely pleased with the result. This piano is in our smaller concert hall/classroom. I must say that the clarity is very pure and it has tons of power. I'm going to try another set in our other D in the larger hall that seats about 750, but won't be able to take that piano out of service now until next summer..bummer. In the Lied Center. our biggest venue seating 2,000 they have a D from the late 80's that is getting new Hamburg Steinway hammers right now (not by me), and a whole new action, Kluge keys, and restrung (not by me). I'm anxious to hear how these hammers sound. It should be a great comparison with a totally different sound, I'm sure. I hear so many different opinions on the NY hammers, I'm a bit leary of trying them. I have now installed several sets of the Abel Naturals and am comfortable working with them. We were fortunate to have Wally out here 2 years ago for an all day seminar where I first learned of the Naturals, so I feel more confident using them. I've not been disappointed with any of the sets. The ability to release tension to the crown on that type of hammer plus the greater out of the box firmness obviates the use of lacquer (except maybe on the top most hammers) and gives greater power without the downside of over lacquering.
