Maybe it works much of the time, but if the solution dissolves some of the glue (if it is water based like hide or aliphatic), it is likely to wick some into the felt while it is sopping wet, and the wetness is slowed from drying by having a caul next to it. Seems like it would also slow the process a lot. How long would it take to dry?
