[CAUT] Hammer to String angle question

Hi folks.

From the many threads on hammer rake angle I find little or nothing on
a question that popped up a couple days ago and thought I would put it
to you all. Look away from the action itself for a moment and consider
the angle between the vertical hammer and horizontal string plane.
Assuming for a moment that the hammer will deliver its full potential to
whatever it hits when it contacts in absolute vertical position, what
happens to the acceptance of this potential from the strings perspective
if the string is not in perfect perpendicular to the hammer ? If the
string plane is tilted so that the bridge end is a bit high... does a
larger pulse get delivered in that direction then if the string is
perpendicular ? Asked another way, if string and hammer are
perpendicular does the hammers potential get evenly delivered in both
directions and not if not perpendicular ? And what happens to the shape
of the pulse delivered in the different cases, and what affect does this
have on the end sound we hear ?

Anyone have info directly addressing these or have any thoughts on the
matter I'd appreciate hearing them

Cheers
RicB
