Remove the waxy coating with either alcohol or naptha. To remove the encrusted goo, I scrape with a razor blade, sand the top with 400n or 500 paper and rub with gray ScotchBrite. That leaves a nice patina, I like the slight wood hue it might exposed too. -- Regards, Jon Page
