When I ordered from Steinway, a gallon of "their lacquer" was dropped shipped to
me from Wurdack industrial finishes (Walter Wurdack, INC of St. Louis, MO 63139)...

the product # is A-625 Clear

I"m not sure if Steinway is still using this brand....my can is stamped May 11 2000....
I only used it to lacker hammers, and I probably still have 3/4ths of the can left...

I payed a hefty "Steinway price" for this stuff, too....

I only wanted to be sure that my hammers had the same ingredients the factory
uses, since I like the sound they get better than when I used lacquer from
Sherwin Williams, or from a local paint mfg.

I think the differences may most likely be the difference in solids contents of the
various makes, but I just didn't want to mess around with concert grand hammers
  and someone elses formula....

It might be possible to order this lacquer from Wurdack directly and avoid the Steinway
tripple mark up .... use your google, and give 'em a buzz....
