I'll not run this tuning hammer thing into the ground.  Use whatever you
like - short handle, long handle, round handle, ball handle, or even a
square handle if you want it.  I'm just telling you that the notion that an
extra short head with a high bore angle puts less bending moment on the pin
is false, because the high angle defeats the effect of the extra short
head.  It's been preached for years and taught at seminars, and one year at
the Annual Convention, but it's still wrong.

As for Tuners Supply Company and Hale:  Sometime during the 1960ies they
must have changed from the machine shop that had been making their tips,
because the tapered stars were not nearly as precise as they had been
before.  From 1947 for about two decades, their tips were really good, but
then they changed.
