Hi, Rob, and Colleagues -
 
I've encountered left-shifting una cordas in  old Steinways:  For  sure an 
1883 'B', and, as I recall, a 'C' from about the same time.  No  problem at all, 
except a little disconcerting to the player the first time or  two he uses 
the pedal!
