When installing new front rail (or balance rail) punchings I "pre-age" them
with a hammer against a hard surface...this firms them up and makes them
more dimensionally stable. I've had pianists comment that they didn't like
the feel of new or rebuilt pianos because of the mushy feel at the bottom of
the keystroke and this addresses that issue.

The pear green (and similar white and other color) are certainly firmer
than the old "dark green squishy" we used to get from APSCO, etc. There are,
of course, dark green punchings of firmness similar to the pear green as
well.
I'd be a little leery of anything very much firmer than the pear green.
I'd worry about too much key bed boom, as well as the feel of the keys - not
enough cushion, hard on the body playing the instrument. There's a window of
"firm but soft" that makes a big difference to the perception of the
pianist, along with a similar window for key bushings. The "new feel." I'd
be interested to hear about feedback from artists concerning Andre's
punchings.

 Hi Fred
They are stiffer than anything I've ever encountered & mostly because it
is not a woven cloth but a pressed felt. I've used the pear green & I don't
find them any different than any thing else except the color is brighter.
I'll check it out today with calipers

Is Andre's punching firmer than Pianotek's "pear green"? (Which is quite
similar to Yamaha, etc).
