Yes, and, for all our poking fun and purist ideals, the bottom line is the
bottom line. I bet art cases account for an enormous portion of Steinway's
profitability. And pianos purchased out of vanity (rich folks who need to
have a Steinway to show off to their peers, whether or not they play)
probably account for the rest. Hey, if people want to spend their money that
way, it's just fine by me. Our industry needs all the help it can get. And
some of those folks tune their status symbols fairly regularly, so it's good
for business. Jim Busby got a week's work out of the vanity of Sundance
(Hey, didya get the Kid's autograph? <g>)
