I believe you'll find it ebony underneath, and quite possible a bit of india ink or shoe dye in the screw holes is all you'll need.

Aren't the rails just screwed onto the piano?  I seem to recall removing some some time back.

Hi, Ed. Yes, Jon Page just reminded me that they are. I phoned 
the Center and left them a message saying I'd just take the rails off. 

Do you remember if the case beneath them was black, or would I need 
to paint that area as well as filling and painting the screw holes?
