Tom,

You won't see too many pre-WW-II Yamaha or Kawai pianos, although a few
of them pop up now and then.

In Japan I have seen Yamaha upright pianos from the 1890s at the
Hamamatsu musical instrument museum. Kawai owns a number of old Kawai
grands and uprights from the 1920s and 30s. It's pretty rare to see
them over here.

Grey market people wouldn't likely be importing the old ones - it
doesn't make sense financially. The newer ones are worth the
transportation costs.

List,
Just curious as to the oldest Yamaha or Kawai anyone has come across. I
know Yamaha has been making pianos since the last part of the 1800's,
however I find it strange there are no signs of any oldies floating
around. The oldest Yamaha I have seen dates back to the late 1950s.
