But then I've never heard balance holes tick repeatedly while nothing is 
being moved. That's one initial tick when the key is touched, then it won't 
tick again until it sits undisturbed for a while, and the key is touched 
again. This sounds more like the knuckle on the rep lever. Can you feel the 
ticks by placing your finger lightly on the shank fork just aft of the 
flange? How about under the jack tail?
