Gurgling in my tummy

Don't count on NASM to force departments to keep pianos tuned.
Accreditation review happens only every ten years. And most of it is
done through self-study (ie, the department reviewing itself). There
aren't any NASM police out there watching - NASM reviewers are volunteer
faculty from other institutions, who go for one week or so, read the
self-evaluation, talk to some people, wander around, and write their
reports.
Not to say that NASM can't be useful. I'll write more a little
later, but will just note briefly here that I think our department
managed to get sufficient attention of the upper administration, via a
NASM report that noted lacks in piano purchase and maintenance, that we
may end up with a replacement budget.
