Avery, Schaff sells a silk cord for this purpose. It's decent to work with. Buy a yard & you'll have enough for the next 142 years, unless you do a whole set. If you use thread, make sure it's thick & durable -- thick so you don't need a magnifying glass to get the thing attached, & durable so you don't have to do it again. Avoid cotton.
