I think turnbuckles would look inelegant -- not something I'd want associated with an instrument I liken to a Jaguar XJ7. A little like adding mudflaps to a Jag.... :-) I was thinking about adding a short lag screw in the upper brace recess -- like the screws in the keybed below the cheekblocks of some pianos -- as a means of snugging things up. I have two Ds that chirp and pop when you push the damper pedal. Very annoying. > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-caut@ptg.org [mailto:owner-caut@ptg.org]On Behalf Of > Michelle L Stranges > Sent: Tuesday, April 02, 2002 4:47 PM > To: caut list > Subject: how 'bout it?? > > > Hello folks!! > > Has anyone ever tried to put some sort of "turnbuckle" in > Steinway ( or any > other grands') lyre braces to take up the space that causes > knocking/rocking problems?? > > I like the newer Baldwin grand idea for helping this. > > (The "T" screw at the top that you twist into a space cut out in the > underside of the keybed to make fit tight.) > > > > Anyone try doing this Baldwin idea on other pianos??? > > :) michelle > stranges@oswego.edu > > >
