It has been my experience that using a drill to open the cloth is the way
to go. I do this after I push an oversize wire through there. If that isn't
enough for the damper wire to fall through, then I drill with an oversize
drill. I used files once, but it was too slow. The hot wire didn't last too
long, and simple compressing them with punch wasn't enough.
