G'day List, I'm surprised that the system used by Steinway Hamburg hasn't made to the US yet... They use a beautifully engineered (of course) system of metal rollers and threaded adjusters. It is very much an integral part of the cheek block. When you remove the key slip, it exposes the hole for the adjuster (flat blade screw driver will do the work), the threaded rod moves a block with a roller that fits over the pin at the top end of the keyframe. The roller allows the pin to move quietly during soft pedalling and is also substantial enough to ensure the frame can be located in the precise position required to achieve the correct strike point Elegant, simple and beautifully functional... If New York isn't using these yet..they should be!! Mark Bolsius Bolsius Piano Services Canberra School of Music Canberra Australia
