Greetings from UT Austin! This question concerns the helper springs which can be added to the first 20-28 bass & tenor underlevers in a typical Renner back action replacement. How do you set the proper spring tension, as recommended in the manual? More specifically, at what point in the upward travel of the underlever do you regulate the tension? As you know, it takes less tension to lift the underlevers at their rest position and the resistance dramatically increases as the underlever rises and fully engages the spring. The manual is not very clear on the point of travel at which the tension is set. It just says to regulate the tension to the recommended grams of resistance. Any advice or help would be most gratefully appreciated. Many thanks, Tom Tom Seay School of Music The University of Texas at Austin mailto:t.seay@mail.utexas.edu
