piano tech. position

List,

I have to echo the general tenor of Newton's post.

The last full-time position I had was at USC. With one full-time
assistant, we had a total of nearly 200 pianos, 6 harpsichords,
a 24 station Baldwin electro-piano lab, in 13 buildings spread
over a 1/2-mile radius; AC in only one faculty office building;
average 400 performances per semester (yes) using 13 instruments
in 8 buildings; 700 majors undergrad/grad with 130 piano majors; 5 S&S
artists, 2 Baldwin artists; $3,500.00 annual budget; the list goes on and on.

To the extent that you are able, stick to the guidelines published in the
document thoughtfully labeled "Guidelines" (etc) available from the
Guild office. (Some of the data/formulae are flawed, but they are, at least,
a starting point, and, more importantly, the only published document
to which you can presently refer - administrators like that, even if they
choose to ignore it.) Turn not even one screw for which you are not,
in some fashion, compensated.

Note for those of you who have good working relations with your
supervisors/administrators: Cultivate them, and put not your
trust in princes. (Even assuming an error in Machiavelli, one
can rely on Scripture.)

Cheers!

Horace
