Hi John,
        To answer the question, yes. However since I have made a tapering
jig for my table saw I have not found it necessary, also the impact tone of
the hammer is a lot nicer by hammer mass removal. 1 gram at the hammer is
about 5 grams at the key tip, yet 1 gram just above the capstan will only
yield something less than a gram at the key tip.
