You probably can remove them by useing a set of pliers like the ones
recommended for grand knuckle rmoval  (#15411 on pg22 of the APSCO
Catalog) You can grab the wire at the base of the shoe and useing the
round face of the pliers for leverage, push down on the handle and the
wire should extract nicely.
