hammers felt coming apart

Greetings,
 
          I use combo of Elmer's wood glue mixed with Elmer's white glue 
(half and half) apply it with a popsickle stick or extra large toothpick and then 
re wrap the hammer around the core and clamp them with wooden clamp 
clothespins. Works like a charm. However I REEELY like the plastic electical ties, as 
sometimes on a large hammer the clothespins' jaws are too small.
