You're a good man, Jerry. 

I'm certain that a high percentage of your established customers understand that very fact. My advice, for what it's worth, is to do what the docs tell you to; don't let the macho bug bite you, letting yourself do too much too soon; and keep your head in the game. One way to do that might be to write (using real mail, not email) to every customer in your file, explaining your medical situation and the time frame you think most likely for you to get back out working. I'd bet that this would cement your ties to many of them, and they'd be more than willing to adjust some of their expectations to your reality. Everyone has been (or will be) in similar situations.
