Hi, Back after a loooong hiatus due to email address account change, Please note the change in my sign off. Rob, tuning with both limbs I'll bet you are less prone to sore joints in the thumping hand. A blessing for sure Joe Goss BSMusEd MMusEd RPT imatunr at gmail.com www.mothergoosetools.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Rob McCall To: Paul Milkie ; pianotech at ptg.org Sent: Tuesday, January 22, 2013 12:15 PM Subject: Re: [pianotech] Reducing tuning time (was Re: frustrated) I'm a lefty and I learned to tune grands with my right hand and uprights with my left hand. As I go through the day switching back and forth I find that I'm less tired than if I have all uprights for the day. Since I've tuned ambidextrously, I find it hard to do one or the other with the opposite hand. :-) Regards, Rob McCall McCall Piano Service, LLC www.mccallpiano.com Murrieta, CA 951-698-1875 On Jan 22, 2013, at 05:52 , Paul Milkie <pgmilkie at yahoo.com> wrote: Uprights yes with left arm you would be pushing with hammer in 11 to 12 oclock position, but with a grand you simply do not need to push using your left arm, place the hammer in the 3 to 5 oclock position and pull,as long as you clear the stretcher your good. The last octave you may need to push same as an upright or change your tip or hammer to clear the stretcher. Though I used to try and tune grands lefty, but found pushing against the front of the hole increased the torque or apparent torque and was too physically tiring. But then was then and now is now...I should give it another shot.
