Subject: [pianotech] felt

Hi everyone,
Is this action cloth red or green? I remember Bill Bremmer using green? I met him up in Madison WI. Is he still around?. I'd love to get in touch with him. he's an amazing guy and tech.

My other quesion is, do you prefer scissors or a felt knife to cut it.? I'm guessing you cut from top to bottom not left to right correct? Do most of you use felt or do you use single mute method to tune? Do all of you mute the treble or use a paps in the treble and rubber muet in the bass? I use a temperament strip in the middle but I agree with the fact that i'ts too thick or the thinner is too thin and there is bleed through. Forget the treble as the hammers get in the way. the felt is too thick from how can I describe this, when you are looking at the felt from top to bottom it's too tall so the hammers always h it it . the thickness is also a pain as the dampers will also ring too much. So maybe I'll try this action cloth too. does anyone have a part number for the stuff we shouldorder?

To the person who says they take 2 hours. I take tha t long also, sometimes longer on pianos that haven't been tuned in ages. Pianos I service regularrly I can tune faster. I still don't get how someone can tune in 45 minutes and get a good tuning out of it. I've heard that it's hard to get a stable tuning that way ,but thats what I heard.
